Air-Con That Works - Sometimes

Featured Replies

Just got a 2002 Zetec focus, couple of problems, the air-con is intermittent, it does work, gets nice and cold, but sometimes stops working, or if you switch it off, it doesn't come back on again, although sometimes it does?? Any ideas what it could be, what I should be looking out for?

Ta,

Steve

May need re-gassing. If the pressure drops it will automatically cut out to avoid seizing the compressor as it requires constant lubrication from the PAG oil that is mixed in with the gas.

Sounds like moisture,if it works then stops working and works again later on what happens is the moisture freezes in the system blocking it up, regas and a deep vac should cure it also get the drier changed if its not part of the condenser

either way regas should fix it :)

Sorry, forgot to mention, I had it re-gassed. Ok, was Kwik-Fit, but I assume they do a good enough job.

Kwik-Fit stands for Quickly F # # # it Totally.

Kwik Fit once re-gassed my renault megane a few years back as mine was not cold when switched on, they re-gassed it and it lasted less than 1 day before blowing warm again, they said my system was broken and that they could not help me and gave me a full refund, i then took it to another local garage who re-gassed it and sorted the oil for it aswell and after that it was pefect up until i sold the car.

The morale of the story is... not to use kwik fit, there are much better independant garages who care more about your car.

Well, I didn't have to pay Qwik-Fit so I'm no worse off than I was before, in the short time I drove it before re-gassing, it was exactly the same. So best advice so far, go to an independent garage??
