Small Modification

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to the forum so sorry if this is a repost. Just ordered a new fiesta zetec s 1.6 tdci in frozen white due to pick up end of September. Was just wondering what small modification to do to keep insurance and warranty down. Already have a few things such as hids, led number plates and wind deflectors ready to go on but suggestions would be more than welcome.

Thanks Marc

Hids are illegal, wind deflectors are for old people, & if you mean led's in the number plate lights I wouldn't bother. I'd de-badge & de-tango it, & save up to put an St defuser on.

But then again I am a bit biased.....lol

HID's are amazing, but I don't recommend them due to legality, deflectors look decent and do a decent job of not blowing you or your passengers to bits if you have anyone in the back and help keep rain out too when it's a little damp, and allow the windows to demist better as a result of a little air flow.

Debadging isn't too bad, and de-tangoing as suggested is decent if you like that sort of look. Upgrading various bulbs for LED's is pretty good, for a fiver you can dress the back of the car up nicely with bight white LED's instead of dingy dull yellow lighting, and the Fog's with Sidelights as CREE bulbs look good, although they do tend to suit HID's more.

I did quite a lot to my previous Zetec S, done stuff all really to this one and happy enough with it for my daily runner :P

wind deflectors are for old people

Are you calling me old now?

Are you calling me old now?

Lol, or I suppose they look ok if your a young wipper snapper like yourself that don't remember them on coffin dodgers cars...

I remember the huge glued on things people used to have but the ones nowadays are sleek and in my opinion can enhance the lines of a car.

I guess they're definitely a marmite thing.

BTW I'm 43, is that classed as old these days?

I certainly don't feel ancient anyhow.

I have HID's and whilst not legal think they look really good, and no MOT worries for 3 years. LED number plate bulbs and CREE sidelight and reverse lights are excellent. De-tango all round, de-badge and DMB gel badges to match your car. Wind deflectors are not for me but my son has them and loves them.

Of course you should declare all of this to your insurance as well whether you do is down to you.

God I'm 53 what does that say about me then? Pass me my zimmer quick!

Old !Removed! ;)

You all can borrow my nan's zimmer frame :P

All this makes me feel positively young at 36, but 1, I love the look of HID'S, and had no problems with them come MOT time on previous cars. 2, had wind deflectors on my last 2 cars, and I deffo think they enhance the look of the car, makes them look a little more upmarket. And 3, the led reg plate lights, just make the car feel that bit more up to date, as they are now fitted as standard to the likes of BMW and AUDI, and we all know they cost a fair few more pounds than a new fiesta. In my opinion, your first few mods are all good, but as stated above, be aware that the law does seem to be clamping down on the HID'S, so fit them at your own risk. Personally, I'd just crack on and deal with problems IF they arise.

Thanks for the advice guys, I have had Hids in my two previous cars and never had a problem. I know wind deflectors aren't everyones cup of tea but I think they look really nice if the back windows are tinted.
