Air Filter

Featured Replies

Just a quick one really, under my air filter on my mk7 1.25 Zetec theres a small piece of foam with some fluid underneath (brown in colour oily like if that makes sense) the tube that connects into that runs upto the top of the engine?

Is this fluid meant to be in there and if not any idea of what it actually is?

The tube you mention is the breather pipe from the crankcase - basically it sends any air that leaks from the cylinders into the crankcase back into the airbox to go round again. The oily liquid is oil that comes with it, and the foam is just there to absorb it. So yes, it's all normal but I have no idea how much should be in there or whether the foam should be cleaned/changed when the filter is?!
