In my opinion i think it will fit a uk/ 5-speed pre-facelift, i think the thread etc is the same, only problem is if the reverse gate is different - if you find out if "aftermarket" ones that fit both pre & post faclift cars, you should be ok

The gearknob will definitely fit, the yhread pattern is exactly the same.

I installed a black leather 2.5 gesrknob into my 2.0 and the only problem I came across is that the gaitors attach in a different manner

The 2.0 has an elasticated collar that grips into a groove at the base of the gearknob whereas the 2.5 has a plastic or metal ring that sandwiches the end of the gaitor between it and the body of the gearknob.

The best way I found to secure the 2.0 gaitor to the 2.5 gearknob was to carefully unstitch the end where the elastic is then remove the elastic and use a couple of thin cable ties to grip the gaitor to the stem of the gearknob.

Basically- replace the elastic ring for cable ties.
