Vented Brakes

Featured Replies

Hey,

does anyone know what vented disc brakes are??

Need my pads and discs replacing and as the discs are vented i need to replace both at the same time as the pads wont fit on the dics becuase if them being vented (apparently wont fit them disc properly).

now looking at this on google i see that you can get solid and vented disc brakes but i dont think this is what ford was talking about. i think they are wron in a certian place more than the rest of the disc that is why i need to replace both when i have them done.

does anyone know what this might mean as the tinternet is not giving me much luck.

thank for you help in advance.

Luke

Vented discs basically have a load of fins, blades - call them what you will between the disc surfaces. These allow it to draw in cool air.

cheers, if this is the case then why are ford asking me to change them, they said there is a fault with them and have givne me 6 months to change them.

You could buy them a lot cheaper than through Ford. I have to be honest though, if you have the style plus, it does seem odd that you have vented disks? vented would be more for the upper spec variants...

Vented discs are now standard on all front brakes, rear discs (where applicable) are solid type.

They are talking utter rubbish by sounds of things. If in doubt get down to your local not station and ask them to have a quick check for safety's sake. Most places do brake checks for free

Adding to the comment, go to your local council MOT center. The likes of kwik fit, or other garages may see a not so legitimate means to spook you into buying from them, whereas the council center cant do repairs, so they cant make money off telling you a fib, so they will speak the truth!

Always get a second opinion. Mate of mine was just quoted by Ford £800 for new pads and discs. I put him in touch with my Mechanic and he paid just £160 to supply and fit new pads only. Discs didn't need renewing.!!!!

Thank you for all these reply a guys. Really helpful. I thought it was strange that they had vented breaks. I assumes there were for faster cars when I researched it. The pads are 70% worn and as I says the discs are vented ( what ever they mean by that ) so to be on the safe side, my fathers mechanic is changing pads and discs and only costing me £100. As you say ford quoted 258. Rip off. So I thought get them done and replaced and for that cheap can't go wrong. Nothing's better than new ones I guess. Also the car is making a god awful squeel when turning and I was reading up could be break design fault when pads are worm do hoping replacing them gets rid is squeel to :)
