Reverse Gear But Rolling Forward

Featured Replies

Bit of a weird one,

Had my car in reverse gear whilist sat on a downwards slope briefly (cant remeber exactley why i did this) only for a second or so

had my foot on the clutch. Released the brake and started to roll forward only a metre or so.

Will this had damaged any components at all? As car was in reverse but rolling forward?

In short - No :D

Thanks :)

As long as you had your foot on the clutch theres no difference for the gearbox wich way the wheels turn.

However, If you'd let it get some forward speed and then disengage the clutch whilst in reverse , you could stall you engine, or in worst case shred your gearbox.

Thank you for the info. How would you know if youve shredded your gearbox? Would you have to do it a few times to cause damage or would the once cause bad damage?

it would make a loud banging, smashing, crunching noise.

you'd know as you'd probably be scrapping your face of the windscreen :P
