First of i wanted to upload a video of the sound and when it does it, but my phone wont let me upload one so i will do it tonight,

But anyway, when i rev the car you can hear a high pitch noise just after the sound of the engine and air intake, also when the car starts my fans goes absolutely nuts fires up and you can here the fan quite a distance away, this lasts a while then dies down, but as i rev the car in neutral or in any gear the car makes a high pitch noise. The more the rev the louder is gets. Even when i drive its still there

Ive had the noise for 10months but ignored it for now but im wanting to sell the car and dont want anything wrong with it so i can get max money back from it. It started just after i had a sound system installed, or thats when i noticed it if that makes a difference??

Any one got any ideas?? I will upload vids later tonight either on here or i will link it to YouTube

Probably thrust bearing. They whine in neutral when there worn.

Is that a big job ?? Would ford charge me a small fortune?

If it was the thrust bearing, its a gearbox out jobby, so I'd imagine you'd need a mortgage if you took it to Ford's.

How much would this cost ?? Its been 10 months ongoing so would this have done a lot more damage to other things?? :( shouldn't have left it i think :/ pay day comes and goes -.-

Pop into a Mr Clutch etc and get a free check up then take it from there.

Spoke to ford and local garage it sounds like a thrust bearing ford say 600 to repair or replace the gearbox depending how much damage there is as i left it soo long :/ local garage is seeing the car friday to assess the damage and repair cost :/ pay day gone looks like 5 weekends in for me :/

If i leave the broken thrust bearing what could happen to the gearbox or car?? Would it be more cost effective to bite the bullet and get it done now or leave it?? What could go wrong?

My dads thrust bearing let go on his Honda accord, and a piece broke off,,, no bigger than a 5 pence piece, and it smashed a hole through the gearbox, so then needed clutch, thrust bearing and a gearbox,,, so it was an expensive job.

Do you know for sure its the thrust bearing ? As its quite a big job for a maybe ? If so I'd look for a local garage or even a mobile mechanic who knows their stuff, no more than a couple of hours. Might be as well changing the clutch while everything is off ?

Went to a garage today, he will have a good look and tell me, service booked in on thursday so he will get it done for me and I'll let you know, he will only charge me time to check the fault and let me know how much and how long it will take to do it, i know the owner so i wont get ripped off
