Brake Issues On Mk2 Focus

Featured Replies

On my 06 plate Focus 4 occasions recently I have braked and pedal is stiff but brakes are very weak, and car just glides on, no "bite" from the brakes at all. Totally intermittent problem with no warning, car then brakes perfect again until.........? Anybody else had the same problem ? My thought is either brake servo or master cylinder or ??

Sounds like a possible vacuum problem or like you say master cylinder seals gone causing a hydraulic lock on the so no or little fluid going to the brakes needs looking at urgently I'd say

Definitely sounds like a vacuum problem. What engine? Petrols use vacuum from the manifold, diesels have a pump as there is insufficient manifold vacuum. If the latter it could be a pump problem, sticking pushrod or valves. I agree with Neil this is dangerous and needs investigating ASAP if not sooner.
