Fiesta 1.6 118Bhp Or Fiesta 1.0 123Bhp

Featured Replies

I am considering the Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost but am concerned with the durability of the 1.0 engine compared with the older 1.6 engine it replaces.

Seems to me that the 1.0 engine is under considerable strain, whats peoples opinions?

I appreciate that turbo charging is not new and that other manufacturers have already produced smaller engines churning out high power. I also appreciate that the 1.0 turbo-charged ecoboost is a new engine using new technology but the new ST uses a 1.6 turbo-charged ecoboost engine with 180bhp (with an apparent overboost of 200bhp) you'd expect with an output of 123bhp a 1.2 or even 1.3 turbo-charged ecoboost engine would have been used.

Should I be concerned?

Nope, Awesome engine, its actually capable of around 200bhp so you should have no concerns.

Most car manufacturers are actually fairly conservative with power output and you will quite often find engines are capable of much more than they come out of the factory with. That's why lot's of tuning companies are able to produce remaps etc with even more power. Ford's power output level with the 1.0 Ecoboost if probably very safe! ;)

no contest as far as i am concerned, get the 1.0 ecoboost and save on petrol, insurance ect ect

look no further than F1 next season 760bhp from a 1.6 engine, 600bhp just from engine the rest from energy recovering systems. more powerful than the engines there using now with a 35% mpg reduction.

Ecoboost engine is awesome

Had my ecoboost 3 months now done 3k and still get a little excited everytime I get in to drive it, great fun to drive!

i had the 1.6 and it was infuriating at times from the lack of guts!

i would rather have the 1.0 ecoboost :) ....

longevity? well, in a sense i would rather be happier up until the point it went bang. rather than be with a more infuriating engine for a longer period of time. But... i may have an unrealistic approach to things!

If it's gunna go bang I'd rather it was funny doing it.

I've done 6000miles with 164bhp no problems with it!
