CJW0706
Hi everyone, I gave 1.6td fiesta and have only managed 61mpg. Can anybody achieve the 64 mpg quoted in road tests?
jamesm182
Hi Chris to be honest 61 mpg is pretty good. Normally people struggle to reach manufacturers claims for MPG as they are done under strict conditions in a laboratory. If I was you I would be happy with 61 mpg. Beats my ST anyway! alexp999
I would say 61MPG against 64 official figures is really good. Don't forget the car is not even moving when doing those tests :)
GrahamJC
Some owners of Fords in America are suing Ford over mpg claims. If you put into Google something along the lines of 'Ford sued over mpg claims America' you will find it. Sorry I could not post the link. The owners are bringing what are termed 'class actions'! jeebowhite
What age is the fiesta? normally if its a new motor you have to break it in to get the real good MPG, but as has been said, you have done an excellent job of getting the MPG that high, and I wouldnt be too disappointed if I was you! Was that average, or live?

It's different within the EU though, as the tests are regulated and performed all the same, It is the tests that are wrong not the figures really. GrahamJC
It's different within the EU though, as the tests are regulated and performed all the same, It is the tests that are wrong not the figures really. I take you point but prospective purchaser are influenced by mpg claims in brochures etc and generally have no idea how the figures are reached.and if these are inaccurate then the claim could conceivably amount to a misrepresentation (in the same way that the mileage on a clocked car would). jeebowhite
No Doubt Graham, and that is why some fortunate soles managed to take their manufacturers through the courts. The problem is, that without driving in the same conditions day in day out, they cant really establish MPG claims. What they need to do is build the likes of the LHC that a car can go through, a large wind tunnel that it can drive around and around through for X miles in wind at 40MPH, going up and down hills, faster and slower winds etc, and then all manufacturers are forced to use this for their road tests. The car moves, suffers the same weathering as every other car, and its a more natural, and reliable test to confirm the MPG reliability... GrahamJC
Again, point taken are you are correct in what you say. Maybe the American litigation will have some effect on how mpg figures are produced in future because they clearly should reflect normal driving - we can but hope! jeebowhite
Agree'd, I think they should have something like the google car technology actually drive the circuit to ensure that all fairness is kept, the same speeds, and general behaviour is exhibited, that way there is no chance of driving cars differently and one being more superior by appearance as we do see at the moment! CJW0706
Thanks to everybody who posted a reply. The mpg is an average taken on a weekly basis and ranges from 58mpg to 61mpg and this is achieved on daily run to work which is 63 miles per day. The best I've had on the digital display id 70.2 mpg at 30mph. The car is 56 plate 1.6td with under 55k on clock. I'm really pleased with it
sambooka
I would be to never had more than 52mpg out of my 2011 zs tdci although my concrete trainers might have something to do with that
iNath
I averaged 58-65mpg when I had mine.
