hi all ,i have a 09 focus 1.6tdci econetic with 79k on clock, car light warning came on reading

engine malfuncation, rang aa came out could find not fault,so brought to my local ford dealer who ran diagnostic on it and said dpf needs replaced, and the eolys fluid is low,now thing is car is driving absolutely perfect no loss of power, out of ten times starting ,the malfuncation light came on 3 times and even then the car would drive normally, the regen light hasent come on at all,is it because of the mileage that ford are saying its due replacement rather than needing it ,what if i topped up fluid and got a regen done in dealers instead, has anyone had the engine malfuncation warning come on and if so what was there recomendation, thanks in advance

This is going to be no help to your question, but DPF's are the thorn in countless diesel owners cars. No good for short journeys, and very expensive to fix,,,, newer versions have a dry system with no fluids, but still a painful subject. It would be cheaper to have it removed and remapped at the same time. Resulting in a better drive, more mpg and power, and no need to worry about the DPF ever again............

yeah have thought about removal, but a little concerned about blowback of debris into turbo, and read somewhere that if you go to a ford dealer in future for any diagnostic work that it can wipe the remappimg done on the ecu when dpf is removed, meaning you will get more headaches,

Hello

When mine showed engine malfunction AA got a code.

Watch out for cutting out and check your engine oil level not over maximum on dipstick. All signs dpf not regenerating properly.

Check your actual car build date on Fords etis system, i am surprised you still have the eloys system on a 2009 plate as I was told changed late 2008..

Stay away from Ford dealers then! once the car is out of warrantee there should be no need for an ECU software update that would wipe the map/ electronic delete but if that inadvertently happened the mapper/ DPF deleter may re-instate the map FOC

removing the DPF will increase the lifespan of your turbo/ engine,- it is well known that the DPF can contaminate the engine oil and damage the turbo (so removing the DPF helps protect the turbo/ could help save the cost of a replacement turbo)

Once the DPF starts "playing up" it is a good time to get rid of it - as the money wasted on replacing/ repairing it could be spent on a good DPF delete

Removing the DPF (phisically/ electronically) means better performance, economy, reliability and no more problems/ "headaches" and wasted money with the DPF

Sooner the better, IOM
