Focus St-2 Rattling On Cold Start

Featured Replies

hi i have a 2006 st-2 focus with 97k and first thing in the morning it has a harsh rattle for about 2 seconds and sounds ok then ..ive noticed it only seems to happen when the car is parked downhill and not so bad in fact hardly any rattle on the flat parked.. its not an injector or vvt type rattle its more like bottom end..but only when downhill .. i know the solution would be to not park it downhill but wondered what it could be !! ive even added forte treatment but still the same

It may be due to the oil in the sump slopping forward due to the nose down angle.

The car is likely taking a bit longer to cycle oil to all parts of the engine therefore the noise is more evident.

Next time you start up from cold on a slope look to see how long it takes for the oil pressure light to go out and then do the same thing when level and compare the times.
