2004 Fiesta Tdci Cold Start Problems

Featured Replies

hi there everyone. i own an 2004 fiesta 1.4 tdci with nearly 138000 miles and the thing is that when it rains and get's cold, the car doesn't start on the first try . i have already changed the battery , the diesel filter and the fuel lines and the problem won't go away.

any of you guys got any ideas?

Regards from Portugal

I'd try changing your glowplugs

I'd try changing your glowplugs

it might solve the problem, the thing is that i already took it to lot's of mechanics and they always said they were fine  i guess i won't loose anything to check again

It would have been the first thing I'd have changed with it being one of the cheapest and most obvious faults

in that case i'm going to see my mechanic . i hope it solves the problem :)

Certainly hope so sometimes mechanics look too much into it either that or go for a more expensive option to make more money out of you

it wouldn't be the first time, unfortunatelly  i was thinking about going to ford so that they connected the car to the computer to check but i will use a multimeter to test the plugs , that way i might save some money

When I had a Mondeo Diesel the glow plugs were worn out, and the car took ages to start in the winter.

I mentioned this to the garage when it was being serviced and they were adamant that the glow plugs were fine, and that the air filter housing was at fault.

£20 later and an hour of my time later and the newly fitted glow plugs started the car first time every time.

I often think mechanics try to make bigger jobs out of the little things.

i'm starting to believe that too, they change a lot of things already and they always said that the glowplugs were fine, i better check my self just to be sure-

in the summer , the car always started at the first try?

Yes, it started fine in the summer but when it started to get cold it would take longer and longer to start.

I'd had enough by the second winter so fitted the glow plugs myself. Easy job and it made so much difference to starting on cold mornings!
