Engine Undershield

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I had my car into a Ford Dealer the other day for a service and MOT.

I noticed that they had not attached the engine undershield properly. Worse than that, they changed the oil, but not the filter...W"£$%^S! Just wait 'till I get my Ford Customer Satisfaction through.

Anyway, whilst I had the undershield off I decided to clean it. On the side that is inner most there is a sort of fabric, almost carpet. My one was in a bad state, full of gunk and grit, so I took it off, but I've had thoughts that maybe I shouldn't have!

Does anyone know, apart from collecting drips, what the purpose of this carpet is?

Thanks...

its just a heat shield and to protect the engine slightly when it touches the engine when touching the ground

Theres an underbonnet shield and an engine shield underbonnet dampens noise and prevents engine heat from fading the paint the engine shield under the car directs cooling via vents keeps noise down and helps protect parts from dirt and grit etc if youve pulled the carpet material off the underbonnet thats a heat resistant material protecting the foam from heat

Thanks for the reply's.

It's the undershield that I removed, well the matting not the actual shield.

I have to say it was soaking wet and filthy, well removed! And I cant notice the difference....why on earth you put matting like that under a car when it gonna get oil, coolant, water and diesel spilt on it? Only Ford know the answer!

`I have the plastic undertray and think its more sensible than a carpet variety...
