Boot

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Wondering if you could help me.

When I have been out and about in my car today, the boot keeps opening by itself. Can anybody shed any light on what might be causing it to open?

Thank you

Adam

Could be a dodgy lock, does it happen when you say hit a bump in the road or something is happening in all the cases that it opens with?? If not i dont know, could try a new latch and see what happens?

I had this problem on my MK1 Focus.

The wires in the rubber tube between the roof and the boot snap due to brittle insulation bending them.

A bit of water gets into the tube and causes a short circuit.

The fix is to cut back the wires to clean metal (the wire will usually be discoloured black).

Solder or crimp in wire patches and wrap with insulating tape.

You're best off doing it reasonably quickly or the boot lock solenoid will burn out and need replacing.

I'd recommend disconnecting the wiring to the lock until you can check it out.

Couple of screws and some easy to pop clips around the edge of the hatch liner and the lock wiring is easily accessible.
