2013 Focus 1.6 Ecoboost - Is This Normal?

Featured Replies

Just had my New focus a week and, i do love how it drives and pulls, love the candy red paint and in general compared to my previous 2001 focus it is a different animal completely (but didnt want to part with previous car).

Two little things ive noticed and wondering does anyone elses focus do the same.

1. When the car is on intermittent, the drivers side wiper moves from horizontal to vertical, then just before it gets back to horizontal it stops, waits a second, then goes to starting position - was pretty sure it just went to park position in the first few days.

2. If you are in the car with the ignition on, then open drivers door and close it, i cant turn off the ignition or lock the car without starting it first.

Still getting used to unlocking the car getting into it, then realise i don't need the keys in my hand as i have a push button start (old habits die hard)

You have auto wipers I assume, because of the way there designed to move the wipers seem to have a get ready setting, if there not used for a number of seconds they reset back to the off position.

The ignition bit I've not experienced

Is it a manual or an auto you have?

Hi foci_st3 and jeebowhite.

I don't have autowipers, when wipers are not on intermittent, they don't go as far back as the starting position when continuously wiping. On intermittent, they go back close to starting position, then quickly to starting position (two movements), then wipe again.

Car is Manual 6 speed.

Many thanks

The wipers are normal , as Foci said they go back to a home position if they do not sweep within a few seconds.

i have also not experienced the ignitio problem although i have not tested .

I wonder if that ignition thing is a security feature? perhaps to try and prevent the theft of keys?

If anyone else can try it and confirm its the same that might confirm it though.

Could be a faulty GEM module, i know my wipers did extra half sweeps the odd time, then my washers packed in months later. I had to get the unit replaced, this unit also controls parts of keyless entry and immobiliser functions!

Thanks guys, good to know wipers is normal, probably one of those things i will be oblivious to in time. Igniton, again its new fangled, i am hoping i wont be sitting pushing buttons and playing with bits and bobs in the car in a month or two.

Thanks for replies.

Hi Martin,

Call your dealer and ask them about this. Tell them that it seems odd and you think your car may be faulty. Make it sound worse by telling them you have had a period where you have had to leave the keys in the ignition unattended because you were unable to remove them from the car because of this "problem".

See what they say :)

If it's push button start I'm guessing the keys won't be in the ignition just in your pocket or similar.

I have this on my car and can't say I have noticed not being able to turn the ignition off without starting it though I'm not sure if I have specifically tested it with the door open etc.

Normally I can turn the ignition on/off with one press of the button and to start I have to push and hold with my foot on the clutch?
