Aftermarkets (Keyless Entry, Programming Keys Ect)

Featured Replies

Remember that programme well.

They wouldn't lend the hamster a car so he bought one.

Pretty sure that Fords need the key to be inside the vehicle for the ignition to operate.

One idea put forward with the Fiesta thefts was that they were popping out the front quarter window and avoiding internal alarm sensors were plugging into the OBD port and starting the cars that way, this has not been catrgorically proven though.

Sent using Ford OC mobile app

This, on my Focus, the car won't start without the keyfob within the vehicle.

I know as sometimes the keyless entry gets its knickers in a twist and triggers the alarm. The only way to stop it, is to sit in the car with keys.

Also my Focus (and Fiesta before it), will not unlock more than about 6 foot from a door or the boot. I can even stand in front of the bonnet and it wont open.

Long range keyless it pretty daft, else someone could wait till you are walking away from the car and get in it.

In the Focus owners handbook the keyless reciever zones are shown, they are from the sides and rear only due to the positioning of the antenna inside the car.

Keyless on the Mk 2 focus as stoney says has 3 zones.

If The key was detected on the drivers side you were unable to open the boot or passenger side doors until the door was opened on the side where the key was. This is the same for the other zones.

The car will only start if the key is detected inside the car and near the steering wheel. Once started you could leave your keys at home and drive off. The car would run until you stopped it.

Although if the mk2 is anything like mine, it will keep bonging to say the key is not in the car, if the engine is running.

No bonging on the Mk 2

My son has keyless on his Clio sport and you have to be right by the door to open it not sure about driving away without keys once started I will get him to test that at the weekend.

I also wouldn't believe everything you see on Top Gear, good as it is, you have to remember they are making an entertainment show so bit of poetic licence creeps in now and again.

Anyway it's ordered now so no going back for me. I can't really see it being too much more risky as otherwise they would never get the Thatcham cat 1 endorsement. Must make a mental note to get the gap insurance in place once I get delivery date confirmed.
