bigkw
Hi, I'm very new to this so not entirely sure if this is right? I've got a 2003 3 door focus with remote central locking. The passenger door is locking and unlocking correctly (I can hear this) but the door won't open, both handles feel as if they are not catching in anything and it won't open from inside or out! Help please any ideas of how to fix it?
jeebowhite
Sounds like a seized solanoid. You might be able to remove the door card from inside and squirt some electrical contact cleaner in there. Alternatively, does it seem to do this all the time, or is it just if its cold outside? if its cold, you could allow the car to warm up, or warn the door around the edge with a hairdryer and see if that loosens the solanoid. bigkw
It's only just done it today, it's been a bit stiff recently and now it won't open what so ever?
bigkw
There's a dodgy earth on the battery had to wiggle it a few times to get the car started over the last couple of weeks? Is that anything to do with it?
jeebowhite
what's the temperature where you are? if it's cold it might let up tomorrow in which case when it does you should lubricate with silicone or electrical contact cleaner temporarily. sent using the Ford OC app for android. bigkw
The temperature hasn't changed much in about a month it's cold but not majorly freezing! 11degrees at the minute!
jeebowhite
see how it is tomorrow it could be that it sorts itself to the point of opening at least but you definitely need some lubricant to drown it when it does open sent using the Ford OC app for android. bigkw
Problem solved! Feel like a dingbat though, it was as simple as the seatbelt being caught in the door! Didn't even see that when I looked! Anyway cheers for the advice!
jeebowhite
Lol, simple fixes are the best! given that it intermittently does it otherwise, it might be the same thing, but giving the locking mechanism a bit of liquid lubrication wont do it any harm at all :)
