Adhesive

Going to get new front and rear plates, plainer ones without the ford dealership logo etc.

I don't fancy drilling them, so can anyone recommend some good adhesive strips?

Will pop in on the weekend then, cheers, is adhesive OK to use on the front of the fiesta has quite a bend on it, so not sure if adhesive will keep it stuck on

Clean the fixing point off with alcohol wipes or lighter petrol to degrease and stick plenty of tape on.

I'm actually going to change my plates over to new ones without holes and will be using plate holders that will screw to the car then the plates just clip in.

Good effort.

I'd say that the bolts won't work but a set of standard numberplate screws from a motor factors or the ones you already have on your car (less any coloured collars or caps) will be best so the screws won't work loose or cause the plates to bow.

I have had to buy a rivnut kit to fit my rear plate holder.

When I got my car the rear plate was held on with screws that were too big and removing them involved a drill and a pair of mole grips.

This resulted in the existing rivet plugs being mangled and removed leaving the plate attached with plastic plate nuts/bolts.

The rivnut fitting will tidy everything up for me and make the plate holder nice and secure.

Cheers will keep that in mind when fitting. My rear plate has normal screws which fit in those little yellow/ black caps fine, but the front screws are a lot bigger, took a bit of effort to remove them. The screws are clearly too big for the holes, mine is a bit mangled, but the original screws still fits tight, so should be ok for the new plate fitting . Makes me annoyed that the idiot at the dealership couldn't do it properly when they got the car in, if I get another new car in the coming years I'm going to ask if I can do it myself! :)

This is what I removed leaving nice ragged edged holes in my boot.

Old 5mm rivplug with massive rusted in screw-

Nice new 6mm rivnut so the hole will be clean and sealed-

  • 2 weeks later...

fitted the plate holders today, looks very good, this may be a stupid question but thought I'd check, the front plate holder covers a lot of the front lower grill, is this going to cause any issues, with blocking air flow etc. If anyone could clear it up for me I would appreciate it :)
