Engine Oil Pressure Low Warning

Featured Replies

Hi

I have the above message showing on my 12 plate Fiesta zetec. Never happens at a good time, but on a Saturday afternoon means I can't get it to a garage til Monday morning for advice/sorting out. In the meantime I don't know if it is safe to use the car for the rest of the weekend or whether I can do something about it, for example add some oil. Any advice from car experts or people who have had the same problem before and are wiser for it?

Thanks

G

I would check the oil level, if it's low thats the problem, other wise it could be a sensor or a bad pump. It's under warranty anyway so what ever it will be it will be, not a great thing for your 12 month old car though.

thanks Nathan for your reply. I checked the oil so its not that. Do you think it will it be safe to drive until the problem, whatever it is (i.e sensor or pump), is rectified? Or could I end up with bigger problems for doing this?

When does the warning come on right away or after a while?

Thanks Mick for the advice, but this is going to be beyond me to do. I'd rather leave it to someone who knows what they are doing. I just want to know if its okay to drive until I get someone to look at it.

Nathan, it came on after a while. I've started up the car a few times since and the message has not returned so far.

Start it and leave it warm up a little bit then rev it up to about 2500rpm for a minute or 2 or just drive round a short loop near to home if possible, to see if it comes back then I'm guessing it's either a funny sensor reading or it looses pressure somewhere, do that if it comes on again then I wouldn't risk it based on the fact that the engine may not be fully lubricated due to the low pressure.

Thanks for your help Nathan, it's much appreciated. I've taken it for a short drive and checked again a few times and it hasn't come on again. Ill book It into Ford after Christmas to get it checked.

I would be inclined to say leave it now then, did the check engine light come on during the warnings? Otherwise there may not be alot for a mechanic to go at diagnostics wise as I don't think the ecu logs a fault unless you get the EML.

Hi Nathan, no the engine light didn't come on. I've spoken to Ford who say they will check it out at the next service and not to worry about it for now (unless it comes on again). Thanks for your help. Have a happy Christmas

To you too, good luck.
