Mk6 - Theft Of Belongings

Featured Replies

Hi... I've seen lots of threads about autolocking, but I'm a bit wierded out right now.

This morning my car was unlocked on the driveway. The spare change (maybe £4) that I keep in that little pocket in front of the gear stick has disappeared and the other stuff (batteries, some badges, pack of tissues) was now on the passenger seat. Clearly someone has been going around and presumably trying every door on the street possible. Nothing of value was stolen.

Now, I'm usually very militant about locking my door so I do find it a bit wierd that the one time it's not unlocked it gets "broken" into.

Having said all of this, there are two confusing things: I have, in the past, walked away from the car and someone was sitting in the passenger seat and it auto locks itself. Happened more than once so I assume it is a feature? If so, why would that feature have changed?

Secondly, over the last month or so I've returned to the car knowing it was locked when I left, to find that is unlocked again. But again, no sign of theft or anything, just a kinda "hmmm... that's odd".

This was a brand new Fiesta Zetec Blue so I know I have both original keys. Even though nothing was really taken I feel somewhat violated.

I can't see anything, but I assume the remote key locking system is fully secure or isn't known to fail after a few years?

Sounds odd, its not a keyless system is it?

It sounds lie you have a glitch for sure, possibly water ingress?

It's not keyless, no. I have the standard keys with the three buttons (lock, unlock, boot).

I have had previous with water ingress on the doors. I just kinda cleared out the outlets at the bottom and let it drain out without really thinking much else of it.

So I'm correct in thinking that the car should auto-lock itself? I guess there is a problem there. Obviously there is the chance my mind is playing tricks on me and I'm not quite as thorough in my locking as I thought.

Non keyless entry Fords only autolock themselves if unlocked by remote but no doors/boot are opened.

As a standard RCL system you have to lock it yourself.

What he said mine will only lock again if the boot, doors or bonnet aren't opened within something like a minute, but it only single locks it doesn't deadlock.
