Sticky Gear Change

Featured Replies

Any ideas please.

I have a 59 plate 1.4 petrol 5 speed manual.

Recently after driving a short distance the change from 2nd to 3 gear has become sticky and sometimes the gear stick needs to be taken back to 2nd again then it will go into 3rd on the second try.

A slight squeak can be heard on changing gear.

Since new the car has never allowed a change from 2nd to 4th gear but 4th back to 2nd no problem. Is this normal on this model?

I had a similar problem with a sticky gearbox and found that simply cleaning the wires and greasing it up helped a lot.

With regards to skipping up I believe most newer motors don't allow for it. I think the engine will automatically match the speed of the engine to the gear you are changing into so yeah this is normal.
