Yay Or Nay???

Hi guys I'm currently looking to buy a focus tdci 1.6 06-07 model I'm currently driving jap cars all my time drivin I have a toyota avensis which has been great to me, but killing me on petrol as I commute quite a bit to work, very sceptical regarding injectors, turbos, and the notorious clutch and flywheels weaknesses with ford, maybe in wrong but just need the advice before I go for it thanks a lot

To be honest, these things last as long as they are well cared for. To be honest, its not a bad motor, but as long as its looked after. if it isnt, then you will run into issues.

I would suggest the 1.8 is a better engine, its a Ford's own, rather than a peugeot engine so has some benefits. Otherwise, the 2.0 is a very good engine indeed and would give you a lot more, but it is still the frenchies engine.

Ye I think I'll go with the 1.8 as I have done my research and shocked to see Citroen etc use the same engine, just one last thing the PDF filter do they cause major issues? Seen some people with major repair costs with them thanks

DPF filter is a pain in the cahoonas if you have the normal DPF, as its a £1000 bill every 6 years, and around a £150 bill every three.

It no longer should be removed due to the tightened MOT rules, but some still do, the results are yet to be seen.

To be honest, if you do a lot of motorway miles, then you shouldnt have a great issue with the DPF as you will be helping it to regenerate regularly.

I thought the 1.8 TDCI didn't have a DPF??

The DPF comment was more based towards the 1.6 and 2.0, I treat it as a seperate question as opposed to the fact that it was referencing a 1.8. Just so that if Neil did want the 1.6, he knew something more of it :)

But as Steve rightly said, because the 1,8 is a Ford engine and not french, it has no DPF and is a lot better for it!
