Pressed Number Plates?:s

Featured Replies

Right.

Definitive answer on pressed plates.

This is the law and confirmed after talking to my oppo in Traffic.

Pressed metal plates are LEGAL as long as they are in the BSAU145D compliant (UK) font only.

Plates with the foreign style (e.g. German) font are not legal.

That'll do me then :) can relax knowing my pressed plates with all the correct markings and BSAU145D compliant are legal.

Thanks Clive

Good tap there Clive! always worth knowing people in places!

Just to confirm a few points on plates.

To be UK street legal they must comform to the prescribed UK font (Charles Wright) or a font which is substantially similar.

They must have the business name and postcode of the company that made the plate, (web addresses are acceptable instead of the makers name).

They must have BSAU145D marked on them.

They can only have an authorised UK nationality sign on them -

Any other logos (football clubs, car manufacturer logos etc) are not permitted.

Watermark type back images are not permitted.

Of particular interest-

As of 1st November 2008 it became an offence to supply number plates that do not comply with the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations (2001).

Even if a company advises you that non-compliant number plates cannot be used on the road and are for 'display purposes only' it is an offence to supply non-compliant plates irrespective of any advice given.

Any ebay seller listing 'show' plates is therefore breaking the law.

All info extracted from Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations (2001) Chapter 21 (03/07 - amended 10/08)

I remember them in the late 70's my Dads mk4 Cortina 2.3 Ghia auto had them the paint use fade pretty quick and wear off? Speaking of number plates as anyone else seen them number plates where there sort of tinted?? I presume that there for speed cameras so they can't identify them?
