Different Dash Wiring Looms

Featured Replies

Does the dash wiring loom on a rs / st work on a normal focus?

They are all focus, but the rs / st would just have more plugs doing nothing.

But would it work as the wiring diagram for the rs cannot find it.

Anyone?

There are really so many looms available, Just because be it ST or RS does not mean it will have the correct wiring for your car.

You have the extra performance side of the wiring under the engine bay and to the Gem , but these are not always inter-changeable as Ford sometimes use wiring lines for different things. So you might think the High end car loom might have everything but they don't. An ST loom would be different to an ST3 loom and so on, and the loom for a Focus Zetec is miles apart from say a Titanium.

But Would a wiring loom rs for the interior work on a focus titanium. The cabling must be the same. Just some things different. Engine looms are for the engine any cabling for the engine is not interchangeable. But is the actual dash loom interchangeable. The st and rs have the loom for the xenon light module but all other looms don't. According to the wiring schemetics there is no diffrent the wiring itself is all there but more wiring is added for added features. So technically there should be no diffrence on what the loom does in one car or another its the stuff that can be attached to the loom. Are I right or wrong on this as the wiring loom diagrams are just all the same.

I would say yes they are different. Rs/st have extras other cars wont have such as wiring for boost gauges, esp buttons, electric mirrors, alarm etc where a regular model may not have these things.

These additional wiring will be wrapped together with other wiring but ultimately each connector at the other end is the same. Modules will be car specific though and needs programming

Rs loom will work on a titanium depending on what part of the loom you are using. Xenon lights will work but tje module is tuned for an rs

Ok technically all the looms are the same. The lower the model the more connectors that are just taped up and hidden. Same with the gem it disable some features. I checked with Ford. So the loom I put in the car to get xenons is allowed. So all good.

Greetings all from 🇦🇺 I recently bought a lovely 2012 LWFocus - the base model, because it was one owner in great condition.

I’ve been upspecing it as funds allow, put factory alloys on from a Trend and fitted front fog lights already. Thing is I had to replace the dash light switch and to my pleasant surprise it all works and in addition I have the instrument light dimmer capability.

So I’m thinking that the loom/harness IS the same across models which is great because my next mod is fitting a reverse camera and maybe cruise control.

Am I on the right track here ppl?

A 2012 Focus must be a Focus MK3 (production of the MK3 started 03-01-2011).

On a Focus MK3 the light switch is connected to the BCM (Body Control Module) by a LINbus network. The light switch is basically just a number of buttons/switches connected to a microcontroller. The microcontroller communicates the button/switch position to the BCM. All switching of the lights is performed inside the BCM.

LINbus communication (one way) only requires a single wire. This possibility to use a single wire for communication makes it possible for High or Low spec light switches to have the exact same wiring. Apart from this all BCM versions (even the lowest spec versions) support front fog lights.

Another function that does not require any additional wiring/electronics is Cruise Control. The Cruise Control functionality is fully integrated into the BCM (Body Control Module), PCM (Powertrain Control Module), SWCM (Steering Wheel Control Module) and IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).

To retrofit Cruise Control you only need to make a cutout on the steering wheel, install the Cruise Control switch and install the correct steering wheel and airbag wiring harnesses. When all of these parts are installed the Cruise Control functionality needs to be activated inside the CCC (Central Car Configuration) using a suitable diagnostic system.

Retrofitting the original rear view camera however is a completely different story. I would be surprised if the required wiring is present on such a low spec vehicle. Even high spec Focus MK3 versions do usually not have the required wiring to retrofit the original rear view camera.

Be aware that there are lots of technical differences between the Focus MK3 worldwide. The Focus MK3 was produced in Europe, USA, Asia and Russia. Many components of vehicles produced in different production facilities are not compatible. All European Focus MK3 vehicles are produced in the Saarlouis Germany production plant. As far as I am aware most Focus MK3 vehicles for the AU market were also produced in Saarlouis Germany production plant but this does not mean that the AU market vehicles are identical to the European market vehicles.
