I'm wondering if we have any insurance wizards here.

I was hit by someone recently and the car is a write-off - the other party's insurer took responsibility with no fuss.

So this morning I receive a cheque, for a decent amount but not quite what I was hoping for as settlement. Last time I had a car written off, I got the chance to negotiate the amount before the cheque was issued. Have things changed? Where do I stand now?

Having been through a major insurance claim myself, everything else that you said aside, the most important thing you say is that you have recieved a cheque. I am near certain that the issue of the cheque ends the claim "Full and Final" Its a bit like if you sue somebody but then settle out of court, you cant then go ahead and sue anyway.

I would say that your claim has been settled on a full and final basis and that legal paper work has been signed to that effect.

Best thing to do would be to call your insurance and find out if this is the case
