Installing A Usb Port

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Has anyone got any experience or knowledge of how to make the Sony Stereo in the Titanium X (2009) ipod compatible? I have tried syncing the ipod through the Bluetooth like I did with my iphone but it just wont sync?

I have been told that you need to install a USB port in the glove compartment? Is this true? Is it easy? Expensive?

If anyone has any experience with this then I would be grateful of the advice :)

Cheers,

Glen

I have changed mine on my 59 tit, with converse 1007 and sony 6 cd dab,in my case you it was just plug and play, and also gives streaming from phone, you need to check the Bluetooth/Voice control module you have and the converse version if you have converse, post these and then you can get definitive answers, the bluetooth module is situated just above the glovebox nearest the passenger, you have to remove glovebox to access, if you have to change its just a swap and a standard micro to standard USB lead into glovebox or wherever you want it, everything depends on the B/T module you have.

I presume you have the Aux socket fitted, don't take it this helps, it sounds like you don't have the module that gives streaming.i.e. AD2P.

add: I now have hundreds of mp3s on a 16gb memory stick with both title and artist displayed on radio and converse

To simplify it for you, if you have B/T Voice Module 8M5T-19G488-Ax (the last digit refers to issue) then you do not have USB access or streaming from Bluetooth full stop, You need to upgrade to an 8M5T-19C112-AM series M issue in my case although I believe the early issue of these may have not had streaming, hope this helps, by the way the B/T module cost me £65 on fleabay and that was reasonably cheap

Hi al2052, thanks for your help, it is much appreciated. I will have to take the glove box out and have a look - however I do have Converse and voice control and I am able to Bluetooth my iPhone to the stereo, just not my iPod?

I will have a look at the module tomorrow if I get the chance and let you know.

Many thanks,

Glen

Unfortunately not entirely familiar with the Ipod, but not all Bluetooth/voice modules support streaming, the 198C112 Series does, can you stream music from your Iphone ?.

Secondly I understand that not all Ipods support Bluetooth, does yours ?.

Is streaming over Bluetooth the best for audio quality or would using the Usb be better quality, although I understand the early Sony's were not renowned for sound quality and was vastly improved on the 6CD dab model, personally I am very satisfied with my upgrade both with sound quality and functuality.

Hi al2052,

No I don't think I am able to stream music from my iPhone, just to make and accept calls.

My iPod is Bluetooth capable, but when I enter the pin code that comes up on the stereo when I try to link the two, it doesn't work?

I removed the glovebox today and the module is close to the one you stated above - 8M5T 19G488 AK?

I will check what version of Converse + I have soon and let you know.

Thanks,

Glen

Oh and I'm not too sure which would be best for quality, but like yourself I have the 6CD DAB Sony Stereo.

Thanks,

Glen

Hi Glen I find the Sony 6cd dab quite good for quality and I would expect your converse to be 1007, if so then you are the same as mine and upgrade would be simply remove B/T and replace with upgrade and just add a bog standard micro usb to female USB socket, not too sure now whether b/t is mini or micro, I encapsulated a angled socket with plug thru glovebox side wall to enable unplugging for future removal if necc, but their is many cheap mounted usb sockets on amazon. no need to buy fords expensive items.

I think you have to remember Bluetooth is primarily for phone conversation and you need the update for music streaming, personally I think the update is very worthwhile and I don't think you will bother with the ipod, but you still have option of usb or possible streaming, I find the sound quality from mp3s very good plus I can put what I want in titles on display and amount of tunes depends on stick capacity, cant remember about streaming quality from phone because never use for this now

Hi al2052,

Sorry for the late reply, well I think following all the advice you have given me I will go to Ford this weekend and order the USB adapters etc and then see if I can find the Bluetooth module on eBay like you did.

I checked my Converse+ version on Monday and it is 0906. Would this need updating? If so I'm guessing at Ford?

Thanks,

Glen

I would check price first with Ford, I was perhaps lucky with having converse 1007 in that my version was purely plug and play, so unsure what your version supports, perhaps it might be worth checking thru forum before taking the plunge and even listing your versions, there is many helpful people on here.
