Another Question: Fuses This Time

Featured Replies

Had a look at the fusebox behind the glovebox and it'd got little, diddy fuses in it

Are they mini or micro fuses as I want to buy some spares?

Also read somewhere the cig lighter socket can be set to be perm 12v or switched 12v off ignition

Mine is perm but switched would be better for me

How do I change it?

The fuses in the footwell board are mini type.

Concerning swappable power supplies, I have heard of the ability but can't confirm it.

Some have used a piggyback fuse tap and wired the socket to a ignition only live circuit.

Had a good search on the web and it seems that you need to move the fuse from position F68 to the slot directly above it (near to relay K41).

Worth a try.

to be honest, depending on what you are running on the 12v circuit, you could just piggyback off an ignition live source and wire in a new 12v.

If you need fuses I have plenty for sale at the moment, have a look at my for sales in my signature, I think they are pretty cheap and I can do whatever combos you want so you get what you need.

I think the rear box on yours is probably mini, but as a rought guide:

160px-Electrical_fuses,_plug-in_type,_di

If its the size or smaller than your little fingernail then its micro, if its the size of your ring finger its probably mini and if its the size of your thumb its standard.

Mini, standard and maxi are the usual 3 which looks like the 3 in the picture you have posted James?

Not sure, I thought they were micro, mini and standard as opposed to maxi?

Micro are horrible little things, there are a few variations. Then there is low profile mini - I haven't come across any in a car yet

The main give away between mini and micro is the spacing and size of the blades

pretty much, if you cant fit a whisker between them its micro, if it just about sits on your finger its mini :p

Close enough to the trade name for it James, unfortunately I can't post that on here

haha, perhaps one for an email :D

Either way, Jim (heading back on topic) if moving the fuse doesnt resolve it, let us know what your really wanting to do with it, and we can advise the best answer :) if your using it with very little pulling power, then you could piggy back a circuit, run a 16gauge pair of wires from tapping an ignition only source and route it through to where you want it, its not as scary as you might think, heck, if I can do it.... :D

Why do we still use gauge and not mm where car wiring is involved.. It annoys me so much lol.

OK, they're mini fuses and I found some in the local garage.

Just as well as, when I went to move the 15A one, I dropped it behind the glovebox never to be found.

Replaced it and moved to the upper position and the cig lighter socket now works as ign switched

Needed this as I use it for my HD dashcam which I only want on when I'm driving

So glad it worked for you.

Proves I'm right at least once a day ;)

Perfect Result!
