Stubby Aerial?

Featured Replies

This is the problem really I guess LOL I need a shorter aerial that will still give me excellent signal and not look out of place at the front of the roof.

Unfortunately (from personal experience) once you cut that aerial sown by half you lose most of the performance.

The aerial length is very important when matching to a set frequency range.

The lower the frequency, the longer the aerial (or more accurately antenna).

Mid-range VHF (FM radio range) needs an antenna of at least 30cm in order to be 'matched' to it's target frequency and anything shorter will reduce reception quality drastically.

Even pairing a stubby with an ampliifier merely increases the signal from the antenna to the radio, it will not make the signal to the antenna stronger.

In fact an amplifier can make a signal much worse as it will amplify any reception errors therefore making the signal extremely distorted.
