Tdci Injector Problem

Featured Replies

hi can somebody help i have a 2004 tdci zetec s had since nearly new the car has done 238000 miles and has never let me down.was getting more than normal diesel knock,so had a back flow check done at fords found no1 injector was well out,so got a recon replacement from somewhere else, fords replaced it it seemed ok to start with the car is driving fine i have now driven 60 miles and the injector sounds worse than the original.checked the fuel filter and there is very slight metal fragments in the fuel which suggests fuel pump but fords say they have seen this before with no problems they suggest i replace the injector with one from fords they said they have never had an injector from somewhere else to work properly the other 3 injectors are working fine, so my question is do i go for a recon ford one £300 or pump cx and flush and injector £1700 i dont know whats for the best hopefully the first option

Its a 50/50 you spent 1700 on a new pump etc an the injector could still be faulty. Id go injector first but be prepared to spend the extra money. Really if they find metal fragments after the filter the whole fuel system should be replaced (thats what ford motor company tell you to do, not the garage that run a ford flag e.g evans halshaw etc.)

thanks for that what i cannot understand is if it is debri getting through to the injectors why has it only affected only one and not all 4 4 i do think the place i got the injector from was scare mongering a bit think they need the work and they dont want to give me my money back for a dodgy injector

well i decided to purchase a ford recon injector which was £300 they fitted it and the car runs very well but the diesel knock is is still not right still abit louder than normal i just dont really know what to do now

at this point your looking at it becoming less and less viable to keep that car running, at that mileage the car cannot be worht much more than you have spent, so I would suggest you need to think of if its worth saving it anymore.

Diesel Knock can be a number of things, as simple as timing, or a faulty fuel rail or worse.

I would suggest you do a leak off test and see what the results are, this will at least point you in the right direction.

I agree with James about the viability/ cost-effectiveness of the car, and whether it is worth spending any more money on, or whether its best to cut your losses, let it go and get a newer car with a lower milage, as the car cannot be worth the money spent and you may be "throwing good money after bad" - as they say

£1700 (what you considered spending) will buy you a newer car with half (or less) of the mileage - and that car would be worth more so if money had to be spent on it its not "throwing it away" + there would be more life left in it (not coming to the end of its useful life)

It can be a tough decision to make but you must be realistic
