I am in the process of purchasing a Luner Saros SI caravan. It has a Max Laden Weight of 1495kg.

Checking with the Caravan and Camping Club, Towsafe and a Ford 2009 brochure, they all say the above Mondeo has a Max Tow Weight of 1,800kg. However, when I checked the Vin Plate on my car it say's 1,200kg. This means anyone with the same vehicle towing above 1.200kg, is BREAKING THE LAW plus their INSURANCE IS NON AND VOID.

If you have the same vehicle could you check the Vin Plate inside the door and see if the Gross Train Weight is the same as mine, 3370kg. with a Gross Vehicle Weight 2170kg, which gives a Max Tow Weight of 1,200kg. I need to know if other Mondeo Econetic 2.0 115 TDCI owners vehicles Vin Plates say the same.

Please help me sort out this mess.

    Does it actually give a max towing weight on the vin plate? Or are you just working that out from max train weight less gross vehicle weight?

    If you take the kerb weight of the vehicle as 1570kg (as I think it will be), you can tow 1800kg with it - providing your license entitlements allows you to tow a trailer heavier than the car.

    If you fully load the car to it's gross weight of 2170kg, you must deduct the weight from the towing capacity, which then leaves you 1200kg.

    The plate would seem correct to me
