Just to make sure you are doing the procedure correctly see my thread and link to a video of me doing it on my car. http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/67952-video-on-programming-key-remotes-into-your-mk2/

Have you made sure all the boxes are ticked in Elmconfig as per mine before trying the remote sync procedure buddy?

That is how I have been doing it.

I would suggest first off you report the GEM module number you have in use...

Hi Guys,

After an upgrade to GEM (part no: 7M5T) from series B to series J, I stuck with the error "B2090 - Remote Key Entry Date Line Failure", therefore the car can no longer closes / opens with the remote, only mecanical with the key .
The GEM module came from a Kuga vehicle with Keyless entry system.
Using ELMconfig, in GEM > Page 2, I have selected 2 options: "Integrated Receiver" and "Remote Keyless Entry Module is car content" of course after I loaded GEM's initially configurations.

What would be solving? GEM's reconfiguration with IDS?

IDS would probably be needed

Or...maybe I need the Remote RF Receiver? :)

I don't have an IDS, only a modified ELM. What new configuration should be performed?

Thanks

A new (or previously owned) GEM module/fuse box can be reprogrammed with an ELM327 interface and the ELMconfig program without any problems.

The easiest way is by backing up the configuration of the old GEM module/fuse box and loading this configuration into the new GEM module/fuse box. An alternative is to load the correct configuration from the AS-BUILT data of the car.

Note that the GEM module/fuse box must be compatible with the car. There are basically just 2 different types of GEM module/fuse box (apart from the different part numbers which specify the supported options). Early MK2 versions did have the old type of GEM module/fuse box which has a separate remote receiver mounted on top of the roof liner. Late MK2 and all MK2.5 versions did have the newer type of GEM module/fuse box which had an integrated remote receiver. The new type of GEM module/fuse box is backwards compatible (as long as it is configured correctly).

Also note that the part numbers of the new type GEM module/fuse box are not (always) logically chosen. A higher suffix number does not necessarily mean the part supports more options. Which options a certain part number supports can basically only be checked in the Ford Ecat parts program.

Hi,

My car is Ford Focus Mk 2,5 with the original GEM module part no: 7M5T-14A073-BC. For this one the key fob is working perfectly. The configuration was saved(backup) using the Save buttons from all the 3 Pages.

I want to replace it, with new GEM module part no: 7M5T-14A073-JG which came from a Kuga with a lot of options (Keyless system, HID, OEM alarm, etc. -> the options could be checked in Ford-Etis database using VIN: WF0RXXGCDRAG17579 ). After the GEM was installed the old configuration(from previous step) was loaded correctly without error. BUT, after the module was restarted, using the options from the last TAB in ELMConfig, DTC "B2090 - Remote Key Entry Date Line Failure" was raised and the key fob is not working anymore. Also, I tried the procedure to Cycle the ignition key from off to position 2 4 times in fairly quick succession, the car will beep, but the key fob is not accepted!

Please find below a print screen with my new GEM + DTC error.

Also, please tell me how to check my new GEM. I have only an old version of Microcat installed, not Ford Ecat parts program.

Best Regards.

Part number 7M5T-14A073-JG has never been used on the Focus MK2/MK2.5 or C/max MK1/MK1.5. This part number is only used on the Kuga. However I do not expect this to be the problem. I also had a Kuga GEM module in my previous Focus MK2 which originally was never used on a Focus MK2/MK2.5. This GEM module did function without any problems.

Could you post a screenshot of the 2nd configuration page? I expect the DTC code is caused by an incompatible configuration setting. The GEM module seems to be configured for Keyless Entry. A Keyless Entry vehicle uses a seperate module (KVM) for all Keyless functions and have the remote control function of the GEM module switched off.

Hi,

Please find below both Config Page 2 and Page 3. Indeed when I checked the "KVM feature" box, the error disapear.

But, with IDS, the remore Receiver can be turn ON?

Thank you.

At first sight the configuration seems to be fine.

Now I think about it I have seen this exact same problem before a few years ago. Did you check all fuses? Fuse number 102 should be for the integrated remote receiver. If fuse 102 is blown or missing the remote receiver will not work and generate exactly the same DTC code you have.

You could always try repairing the key....?

Hi,

All the fuses are check and are all good.

Yes,

The repairing procedure did not work: "Cycle the ignition key from off to position 2 4 times in fairly quick succession, the car will beep, but the key fob is not accepted!"

Thank you for all your help.

Did the car beep to suggest you were in pairing mode?

Yes, the car (HEC) beeps after I cycle the ignition key from 'Off' to 'position 2' for 4 times. BUT, no beep sounds after I pressed one of the key fob buttons!

I know the procedure, because I did it before on my old GEM module which works like a charm.

On the new GEM, the pairing procedure will NOT work until the DTC "B2090 - Remote Key Entry Date Line Failure" is fixed.

Best Regards.

:)

Possibly the general needs a software update or downgrade to remove that error from the mk2

Hi,

In the evening, I will check again that fuse: F102 - 10Amps and come back with the result.

Maybe extra settings are required using ELMconfig?

Software upgrade/downgrade could be done using only the IDS interface?

More infos here:

Regards.

I believe it can only be done with IDS

As far as I know the firmware of the GEM module/fuse box can not be updated.

Yesterday I searched a bit in the Ford Ecat parts program and found out that the late Kuga MK1 versions were only available with Keyless start and had the new type keyfob (which is also used on the Focus MK3). This type of keyfob is not compatible with the Focus MK2/MK2.5 (I tried this myself some time ago). Both the old and the new type of keyfob operate at the same frequency (433 Mhz) but probably the commands transmitted by the keyfob are different.

Possibly the GEM module/fuse box you have is different from the earlier ones and is not suitable for your car.

Hi,

The software version is from 28.01.2008(as you can see from picture bellow). If my keyfob is not compatible with this type on GEM, can I use an external receiver(MK2.5) the one from the roof side?

Thank you for yor help.

PS: This type of GEM it is suitable for Focus Mk2:

Part numbers 7M5T-14A073-JF and 7M5T-14A073-JG are fully compatible with the Focus MK2/MK2.5.

I was probably the first in the Netherlands who installed this type of Kuga GEM module into a MK2. Afterwards some others did also install this same type of GEM module without any problems.

Congratulations! Now, I realised your posts on the other forum!

Still searching... to solved my problem. :lamo:

By the way, what year was the car? It was Mk2 or Mk2.5? Did you still have de configuration files? Thanks

Hi,

Evrika! With the external receiver (the one from the roof side) the DTC error disapears, and now my keyfobs and alarm are working like a charm. B)

Also, the ELMConfig > GEM Page 2 > 'Integrated receiver' box is unselected.

Conclusion: Part number 7M5T-14A073-JG has no integrated receiver inside! The keyfob functionality is taken by the external antena.

Focus Mk2 is fully compatible because allready has this type of antena.

Focus Mk2,5 has the integrated receiver inside the old GEM and you need to buy and install this extra module.

Thank you very much for the information and your dedication.

Best regards.
