Focus Mk2: What Is This "deflector"?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm part-way through a front-end (mainly nearside) rebuild of a Mk2 Focus. (I'm not a mechanic. I'm just having a go.) I've just installed a new ECM housing box. Looking at the catalogue (I think taken from FordCat) there's another part - 9F721 in the attached diagram. The website I'm looking at - which I think is Russian - calls it a 'deflector'.

I can't find any sign of it in the pile of smashed up plastic I have from the crash, but it could have been left by the side of the road in a thousand bits.

A few questions:

  • What is it, and what does it do?
  • Do I actually need it?
  • Where can I find a new one? (Googling this part number returns other Ford parts that don't look anything like it.)
Cheers in advance.

Its just a wind deflector.

As for what it does it just basically deflects the air when car is moving forward. You don't really need it but if it was me I would replace it as it there for a reason. Some people would argue that you do or don’t need these kind of panels but I personally just keep them there if they were there to start with lol!

Best place to get one may be a Local scrap yard (Cheapest) or Ford themselves.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Great, thanks for the help.

I'll get myself down to a scrapyard, but not worry too much if I don't find one.
