Bluetooth Sound Question

Featured Replies

I have a Mk4, 59 plate Mondeo with the Sony 6CD changer + bluetooth etc.

As I don't have Satnav built into the car I use my iphone as the satnav.

Now my only issue is that my phone connects to the car when I get in which is great for calls etc, but when I want to use the satnav I get no Audio as it must be trying to stream the audio to the car. I also get no muisc when plugging it into the aux-in socket as again I presume it is trying to stream it.

I managed to sort it by turning off bluetooth on my phone but then when a call comes through I can't answer it.

Is there anything I can do or is it just tough luck?! I take it the newer bluetooth module with USB would sort it out?

Also as an extra question where do you mount a phone in the car? I hate windscreen mounts so don't fancy one of those but there isn't much space else where to mount it where it would be easily mountable and easily viewable. I don't think the airvents would be suitable.

Thanks.

I don't think all Bluetooth modules support streaming, I believe you need a AN issue or later module for streaming, having said that I am struggling to get my satnav on phone to stream but music streaming fine, despite having AP module with usb,.

For the phone I use Brodit mount with with swivel and move clips, nice position adjacent to wheel at top of of dash and clip in so removable when changing car, little bit expensive but easily adaptable to fit cheaper third party holders and with the moveit clips just slot in or out.

Yes I don't seem to have streaming in my bluetooth module but it's annoying you can't tell the phone that so that it still outputs sound.

The Brodit mounts look good, as you say a bit expensive for what they are. Do you find the mounts leave any marks when you remove them (ie where they have pressed against etc?) Also did you go for the centre mount (above the triangle) or the side mount (near passenger side?) I prefer the look of the centre mount but didn't know if the other one would be easier to see?

I have the Brodit centre mount, it is idealy placed for vision, have used on three previous focus,s and they have not left a marl although the mondeo is not the best fit ive had due to fitting by being tight and not by the hooked end plus it uses double adhesive on the bottom but doesn't seem to do much, I have built up various mounts over the years and using the move clips just slide any other unit on and the mounts are easily adaptable to other makes. personally I found the streaming a nuisance as it always defaulted to music, so consequently I now alaways use a memory stick in the usb for music even over using CDs in the 6 player.

I don't really want to stream music through the stereo what I would like is for the phone to connect ready for voice calls etc, but when it is connected for the satnav speech to either come through the car speakers or the phone loudspeaker.

At the moment the phone connects as I turn on the car, which is great for calls but then I get no satnav sound from the iphone app.

Or I have to turn off bluetooth on my phone which gives me satnav speech through the phones speaker but then I lose the ability to answer calls in the car.

I'm trying to find a bluetooth module with USB, which I'm hoping will allow me to play mp3s from the USB and stream sound from the satnav but I'm guessing it won't do both at the same time. Ideally I'd like it stream the audio over the top of the mp3s or fade the music out when the speech is on. As I guess that is unrealistic I could use the iphone to stream music and do the satnav at the same time when I need the satnav on.

Thanks for the info on the Brodit mounts - will probably go for one in the near future.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, well not for me, I hoped that the phone satnav would sound over the radio but haven't had any success yet, I believe not all iphones support streaming plus you need a least a version N Bluetooth/USB module to support a2dp streaming,

Personally I feel the USB is a worthwhile upgrade and I just wish I could get my satnav to talk to my radio.
