Crook Washer Jets

Featured Replies

Hi, After finding that Air/con and Cruise/control didn't work and sourcing problems I found fuse 82 kept blowing re washer jet heaters shorting. Disconnected said heater wiring and behold all is good,so far anyway.

Can anyone tell me the test for checking the wiring other than connect it back up one at a time and see which blows the fuse. I have a multi meter but putting it on the wiring it will show continuity even if there is a short. Maybe putting a battery say 9v in the circuit with a bulb in line would indicate a fault?

Thanks for any ideas

Barrie

Use your multimeter to record the resistance of each washer jet and post the values back here and I should be able to tell you which is failing.

If you've got a short to the body of the car you can test the for continuity between your wiring and the car body. But finding it would be another matter.

One of the heated washer jets hasn't gone short circuit has it?

Hi both. Will try and get resistance readings up after the weekend as busy till then. As for short circuit yes I think that is the probability. They are disconnected now, not as if we need them just yet so maybe think about replacing with Focus ones and extending the wiring to suit.

Thanks both

Barrie

No problem, if it had gone open circuit then it would just stop working. So yes it sounds like it is shorting internally. The resistance values should prove this. I would expect the broken one to be a lower resistance when you check it as it should have very little resistance if it is shorting. The working one should need to go through the heater element so should provide a higher resistance.

Hope that helps.

looking forward to seeing the result of this one. Its probably the wiring in the jet thats at fault rather than anywhere else. I would say connect one back up, drive it and see when it pops, then try the other, that should tell you which is broke!

Well, Finally get to sort it. Plugged passenger side in and didn't blow the fuse (well not yet) Plugged drivers side in and switched on, went round the front and smokey poo coming from washer jet unit as it goes through double skin on the bonnet. Took the washer out and for sure the wiring where it goes into the washer was burnt to a cinder. I reckon that may, possibly as it were the problem.

Round the scrappy now and see if I can scrounge one from a scrapper even a climate Focus and extend the wiring.

Thanks all for the help. :)

perhaps take the opportunity to upgrade them to fan types ;) :P

Glad to see you got to the bottom of it though!

Mmmmmmm a thought there, just worried about the direction of the jets judging from the postings on this site that you have put up. Is there any info you can give on aligning the water?

Cheers though

Barrie

Nah on fan types they come as they are...
