Headlight Bulb Recommendation

Featured Replies

Nightbreaker ad says upto 110% extra light - £18

Phillips says upto 130% extra light - £24

You reckon the Phillips last longer? If they do, I'd rather spend the extra pennies over false economy

Stoney is correct how much do you wish to spend auto express 2014 test says halfords extreme brilliance they dont last long neither do phillips then there's cost £25-30 or use auto express recomended autobulbs cobalt II at £10 my old man uses them the nightvision are a tad brighter last only a quarter of the time though

The Halfords are VERY inconsistent. In the Landy which is a great test bed as it gets such rough usage they vary hugely from around 4 days to about 12 months. Agree the brightness is good and beam pattern not bad, they are just very inconsistent (But cheaper)

Sylvania seem to last around a year, Osram around 10 months

My experience is the Phillips are the lasters with well over a year to nearly 2 at good brightness. They were what I eventually stuck with in the landy

Total brightness is not so important as they all loose that initial brightness over the first couple of months as they settle down

Might give the Phillips a crack. Replacing bulbs every few more isn't something I want to do - no matter how cheap

If you're getting twice the burn time that Osram, it's worth the extra fiver lol

I have the phillips vision plus

They are good had them over a year and you can tell a difference straight the way from the standard bulb.

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app

Ended up with the Nightbreakers - nowhere stocked the Philips lol

Have to admit im not impressed with the osram at all decided to go back to these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H1-H7-T10-55w-SUPER-WHITE-XENON-Upgrade-Head-light-Bulbs-Set-Dip-Main-Beam-II-/370784974555?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item565481b6db

Nothing else is brighter or whiter and ive had the night breakers the osram cool blue intense and autobulbs cobalt II

  • 1 year later...

Phillips vision plus on order after much pawing through others recommendations + led's for sidelights.

Just put Bosch Gigalight bulbs in mine and very pleased with the whiter and brighter output on mine not the cheapest but really seem a lot better, will stick the old halogen bulb in one day and do some night shots of them for comparison.

Think I'll give the Philips ones a go as well. Sure I saw a kit with vision plus and side lights as well.

apparently these are quite orangery to look at (according to Halfords) website anyway.... can you stick a pic up?

Not in my experience, not a lot of difference in the whiteness of all the good halogens. They are all definitely not as white as HIDS or LEDS. The only way to get halogens whiter is to put blue over the lens to shift the spectrum, but you are also stopping light output

Picked some philips ones up today. Hard to see much improvement on the 50/50 shot. I'll go outside in a bit and see if it's better in dark.

Why spend the money the ebay ones are just as good xenon extreme white bulbs I've tried most of the stuff at Halfords from osram nightbreakers to Phillips to Halfords own and they're rubbish compared to what you get elsewhere and 2-3 times the price lasting half as long mine are perfect on unlit country roads
