In Car Entertainment - What To Do...if Anything!

Hi all,

So I recently acquired a MK2.5 Focus Style and it's got to 6000 CD installed with steering wheel controls. Sadly it hasn't got the voice button so I'm assuming no bluetooth - not sure how to check without pulling bits and bobs out.

So I'd love to get back to using my iPod/iPhone for music but also have bluetooth for calling.

What can I do that will keep everything looking as stock as possible?

You wont have bluetooth, you could buy the module compatible and fit the additional stalk if the wiring is there. Otherwise, the best answer is probably to replace the head unit.

What's the most straightforward way to check if the wiring is there already?

I'm tempted to go the parrot mki9200 route but need to think about where and how to mount it. Really want it to look as though it's factory fitted

Without a Haynes manual to consult at the moment I would be checking the wiring is there under the dash and behind the glovebox.

Has Lenny sold his Bluetooth bits yet?

What are you after from the Haynes? I'll have a neb in mine for you

Where do I look in order to check my car hasn't got the wiring for Bluetooth? That would be great!

IMHO, you could try to get an aftermarket unit which would be a direct fit and have bluetooth, Ipod connectivity and a lot more capabilities.

I know you mentioned you wanted it to look stock but the amount you will end up spending and the fitting would probably cost you the same, with less functionality. A few of the members on the forums have bought the OEM replacement ones that are made in China. Might be worth asking them how they find it. Here are examples:

I am looking at those units, a lot of them blend in very well and can even look aesthetically as if they are the top of the line models of Ford so gel in well.

I say the aftermarket route is the best answer, although a lot of these Chinese units mean you lose your radio stalk but they often come with their own remote control

Completely agree, those units do look nice and fairly standard! Not too sure on non branded import stuff tbh.

Are there any others like these but without the screen? Or maybe just a bit more simple with the screen? They look really good, but they're just a little too flashy, I wouldn't need USB, Micro SD etc. Thanks.

To be honest you get value for money with those and even if you get something your not going to use everything on, it might still be a better buy.

Your alternative option is to get a single din unit and fascia like those you see in halfords cabinets. More basic, less functionality but never the less offering Bluetooth and perhaps dab if that takes your fancy.

I'd rather prefer something more stock looking, I may just buy the glossy Sony HU from the mark 2.5 Focus', I just need AUX, plus the HU looks really nice and you can never go wrong with Sony!

That Sony glossy black HU is nice looking and sounds decent. Plus, like you said, you get the AUX inputs. I had considered getting it before going down the aftermarket route. Plenty of them on Ebay but if you want to retain the use of your stalk controls for e.g vol, skip tracks etc, the process becomes a bit more difficult as you need a direct replacement or else these won't work, along with maybe bluetooth as well. Lenny did a fair bit of research on the topic, so he might share some of his knowledge about this topic with us :)
