Trip And Fuel Gauge Problems

I have a 2002 Mondeo V6 and neither of the buttons on the dashboard for either the trip computer or outside temp etc do anything. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix?

Also the fuel gauge doesn't go above halfway. I presume this is a sticking sender unit and the only way to fix it is to replace it which means removing the fuel tank. Am I right in this assumption (guess)? Thanks.
