Couple Of Questions (2009 Focus)

Featured Replies

Hey all

only had my car a couple of days now, and I have a couple of questions if I may..

I only got the Zetec model

1. I noticed under the arm rest, there is another compartment? how do you get into it ?

2. Is it at all possible to connect an ipod up to the standard Ford CD player unit and use the stereo to change albums, songs etc rather doing it on the ipod ?

Thanks

Hi, shiwarrior.

Just pull the arm rest up. There is a small 'lever' under the front edge. It's held down by a magnet

You plug your ipod via the aux socket in the glove box. Select aux on the front panel. You can't control anything other than the volume.

Some devices (smartphones/tablets etc.) can be connected remotely if you buy a bluetooth receiver and connect it to the Aux cable.

I don't usually bother on short journeys, but i do on journeys over 45 mins.

Got any recommendations on a bluetooth music adapter??

blimey mine must have a very strong magnet !! or im just not used to the car yet !!

ill have another look at the arm rest when I next use the car

Yeah I realise I can do that for the Ipod , but I wanted to be able to charge it and change tracks etc, otherwise I could put my alpine ipod one in instead, but I didn't want the hassle and wanted to keep the stock one in, what if I bought the Sony version?

My ipod isn't Bluetooth, its the old "classic" one

I personally have this one for multi-purpose use :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004XYI998?cache=2eb5b91cd9428b6863153ffcdb07286dπ=SY200_QL40&qid=1412695092&sr=8-2#ref=mp_s_a_1_2

I've had it for a year and no problems with it so far. Earphones are useful for walking, cycling and washing/detailing the car (no wires getting caught around the sponge/hose/bucket). :) Battery life is less than 6 hours though.

Found this on ebay, would this work ?

I have something like that works a treat if you have cddj button on your headunit

ive just been out to the car, and I can get into the arm rest where the 12v power is, but not the little compartment in the actually arm rest bit, are you sure that's possible? I cant get into it

There is no small compartment in the armrest, it just slides forward to extend the rest.

My bad! I thought you hadn't managed to lift the arm rest up to access the storage area. Doh!

Yes, Stoney's correct. It's just the arm rest padding.

not on this car , nothing can slide out at all, when I looked at another zetec model, there was cup holders that slid out from under the arm rest, but nothing on this one, I'll get pics done

im sure there is a version of that arm rest that does have a wee flappy storage box but doesn't extend out

the extending bit is really helpful for holding the 380ml cans of redbull which wont stand up securely too! :)

My 09 Zetec had a sliding armrest. Only moved about an inch or so but gave a bit more arm support. And lifting the armrest up gave access to the storage area with the power point.

Mind you, your lucky to have an armrest at all. The latest Zetec has it as an option and if you don't choose it you just get a couple of storage 'boxes' with no covers. Very backward step on a mid to high teen thousands car.

But I suppose they try to get any additional pennies they can( I know it's not pennies but you know what I mean :-) )

yep, its in the manual

but I don't think I have that bit, as mine doesent have the bit sticking out to hold onto it, but if you look at it from underneath, there is a hole, looks like you can get a finger in to pull it down

oh right, thanks for that. does the whole thing slide forward then? to make a longer arm rest?

The smooth plastic part of the armrest just slides forward a tad. The ridge which tops off the rear panel staus still.

Drove the car to work today, and I tried the arm rest again, and it does indeed slide forward !

thanks all

Any ideas on the Ipod connections?

I tried the sliding armrest today as well, that is pretty awesome! Never knew that.

The only ipod connection will be through the aux connection in the glove box. 3.5mm jack socket. You won't be able to control the ipod though, except for volume but that just means you leave your ipod on max and select the volume on your audio unit. You plug the ipod into the aux socket, select aux on your audio and let it play.

surely you can buy some autoleads adaptors like with other cars?

Can't see how additional leads will make the input any different. The aux socket is purely a way of connecting an external source to the audio. I doubt any control is possible other than volume, but again that is only control of the volume on the audio unit itself. If you set the ipod/input device volume low then you can't increase that on the audio unit.
