Loss Of Power

Featured Replies

Ok here I am once again, with some more woes of the Mondeo.

So the car went through MoT, but since the MoT I've noticed an issue with performance. Now normally when I hit the high rev range, from 1st through to 3rd I can feel the toque in ranges of 3000 - 5000 and can feel the pull. However in the last couple of days, I've seemed to have lost that toque. I'm at a loss at what it could possibly be and so many thing are running through my head of possibilities that all I'm now seeing is £££££££.

So some of the things that I think it is.

Clutch:

I'm not noticing any slipping with the clutch, or drop downs in power (though on occasion it does a little spit in 3rd).

Gearbox:

Nothing noticeable from the gearbox, it does have a little left/right shake but it's not dropping out of gear or grinding.

Exhaust:

I do have some damage to the exhaust, the sleeve on first section from manifold is not holding in place (Noticed this before MoT). I've not fully checked the exhaust since, but I do get a rattle from it on backend more than what I should do.

The only other thing I can hazard a guess at, are things like fuel filter, air filters, injectors and other bits.

Anyone else have any input to what could be causing the issue?

All the help is appreciated.

As an after thought, I did recently have to top the oil up from almost empty and it's played up since......

What's the engine, mileage etc

If the 2.5 is like the 3.0L its got several cats and a complicated exhaust system, if there is any cats ot baffles rattling about they can restrict flow = lack of power, leaks can muck up the fuel/ air ratio

The crankcase breather hoses (connected to the inlet) and PCV valve etc can leak, drawing air, making the engine run lean, loosing power - check there are no splits and the hidden breathers are ok (often working in that area can disturb them)

A change of plugs can help (if not already done recently) along with a good service

I would be concerned about the oil level dropping - i would check it regularily now - always keep it above the "min" level on the dipstick (in the middle is good) and watch out for smoke out of the exhaust

Yes - mileage would be good

It's a 2.5 v6 (it's the same engine as the 3.0l)

Mileage is 107,000

The power range is now just flat out all the way through rev range, normally you would feel it switch modes at 3krpm+ (You could feel the umph) and that's gone.

Exhaust seems like the culprit, as I had a advisory on both MOT's (the pass and fail) as the sleeve on first section of exhaust is no longer fully attached and slides up and down.

I've got to do a full service on it soon anyway, as I've not changed filters since I bought it last December. So will get plugs changed at the same time as well.

No noticeable leaks from under the car, will get it up on ramps this weekend and check the hoses.

This is first time I've topped up oil in last year, so will monitor that.
