Mk2 1.6 Zetec Petrol Weird Revs Then Stalls

Featured Replies

I bought a 55' plate Mk2 Focus Zetec Climate pack (100) after my Mk1 TDCI ended up at the scrappy! Car has been fine since buying it and already booked in for timing belt, plugs and ignition lead change next week. The power seems to dip now and again and acceleration not as good as I think it should be. Reading the forum people suggest changing plugs and leads and I've checked the plug wells which are dry, but show previous rust stains and slight rust colouring on the ends of the leads. Spark plugs look ok with no rusting to engine head. I've also sealed around the windscreen washers under the bonnet as there was slight leaks from both, so engine top now dry.

The very subtle dips in power are less noticeable than what a misfire would be like and today seemed to improve. I went to start the car after a short drive and the rev counter went up to 1200 to 1000 then 600 then stalled. Did this 3 times and last time I applied some acceleration and seemed to keep the car running.

A bit fed up with the car especially since I've scrapped my old Focus. Any ideas what the rev issue would be?

Car's an ex mobility drivers with 39K on clock.

Thanks.

Could it be the throttle position sensor? The dips in power is intermittent and acceleration can be poor at times. Just read a post on here and it sounds quite similar.

Thanks
