Mk 2.5 Focus Pass Leak From Pump Area

Featured Replies

Hi guys I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding my focus that I brought roughly a month ago.

Power steering fluid was below min today and so the car was making a screeching/whirling noise on start up. Took it to a garage and they said there must be a leak. They topped up to fluid and said see how it goes but keep an eye on it.

I've been back to the garage (brought car from) and they said to bring it back if the fluid goes again and they'll sort it for free.

Notice on an old mot from ford that it said 'very slight pass leak from pump area' but marked as advisory.

Does this mean anything to you guys? Should I just get back to garage and see if they'll change pump and hoses? Or is that extreme?

Oh car is 58 plate focus style 1.6 115 39k

If its leaking or losing fluid have it sorted

Its prob an elbow in the system near the pump (if memory serves me right),that over time gets corroded and starts to leak and has to be replaced. Had it happen me two years ago and the ford garage commented that it was a known problem with them

Something worth mentioning is that when I first went to view the car the ps fluid was low but when I went to pick it up week later I forget to check. Who's to say that it was just too low.

Since it was topped up I've had no noise or loss of fluid from what I can see - think I'll mark the level today and see how it goes.

Interesting that it's a common issue though - good ol ford lol
