Car Finance Mileage Help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Right well I'm in my 3rd month in my deal with ford in my second car! They have increased my miles to 12k a year, I have already done 4k...I know for a fact I am going to go over 12k a year...and at fords 6p a mile for excess mileage I'm looking at thousands??! What can I do I'm really worrying about this...I plan to hand the car back too under the "half rule" but the first year will be up before I am eligible to do so, so I would have already gone over my mileage ...if you can make sense of this, work for ford please help me it's keeping me up at night lol

Cheers

James

Sadly the finance makes it clear you either buy the car so no mileage penalty or dont rack up as many miles or you can trade it in but youll get less for the car or you pay the mileage penalty to be fair 4k in 3 months is excessive for private

Looks like I'll be staying in my deal then lol ...f*ck sake.

I'm afraid it's as Arthur said, their is nothing you can do, easiest way to avoid the penalty is trade the car back in for another and next time make sure your deal has enough Millage.

Believe me your not the only one with this problem!

Thousands?!? It's 6p a mile.... That means 1000 miles is £60 say you do 16,000 this year it's £240 that's not to bad considering!

My finance agreement is 8k a year, I've had it a year and a half and I've done nearly 30,000 miles.

If I'd handed it back after the first year it'd be £720 in excess mileage charges. I don't fancy that personally.

But yeah there's not a lot you can do! Unless you sell the car privately and pay off the finance with the money you get. It could potentially leave you with negative equity though :/

Shiels..my maths is crappy lol! Haven't you based that on 0.06p though? Or is that 6p? :(

So say I go over 3,000 miles at 6p a mile what would it be???

So say I go over 3,000 miles at 6p a mile what would it be???

£180 :)

Yeah I thought you'd worked it out wrong haha I wouldn't worry too much you might get charged couple hundred but nothing too expensive, not thousands

That's fine then! Haha, was absolutely pooing myself for a minute, thanks for yor help

Lol, could've just used a calculator! :D

That's not a bad cost for excess mileage though, one of the leasing companies my mate used charges 12ppm!

12ppm!! Wow lol I did use one but I was doing 6 x 2,500 = 12000

No wonder you **** yourself haha that would be expensive at £6 a mile!!!
