greggp
Well, almost exactly a year to the day without this issue happening, it has come back tonight on journey home. Having been in stop/start traffic for 20mins or so and then pulling away in 1st, 2nd gears from traffic lights, car held back and wouldnt pull away properly, it continued to do so until arrived home luckily only 10mins away. no engine light tho!! turned off and left car for an hour, re started and took out for a spin and hey presto its back to normal, accelerating through gears is fine! So, when this issue happened last year it had just been serviced, new sparks, air filters, oil etc, and funnily enough its just had a its annual service a week ago, again new sparks, air filter, oil etc!! But when above issue happened tonight it hasnt lit EML and triggered the p2008 fault code, but the driving symptons were exactly the same, so definately an underlying issue somewhere. I've have found some links to this fault code, and it mentions solenoids. does anyone know Where and what do these look like? Links to what I found on google, search are here http://www.obd-codes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=10078 http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/7103-p2008-intake-manifold-runner-control-circuit/
leesheffield
I've got the same problem with mine. Been intermittent now for a good few months. Just saving up to get it sorted. So far I have checked all connections, cleaned out intake manifold and throttle body. Checked for vacuum leaks and cracked pipes. Disconnected all connectors a d checked them. Had solenoids off and inspected them. The solenoids are two little devices at top of engine that look like old fashioned whistles lol they control the vacuum as far as I'm aware. This then sucks the runner control which is on side of the manifold that pulls open the swirl flaps in the manifold. This does this with a connecting rod which moves down and opens the flaps inside the manifold. I'm only going on what I Ha e read from lots of other people's experience of this problem. I wish I could fix mine with a simple fix but looking like garage is only option at Moment. Gutted.
leesheffield
Forgot to mention where solenoids are. They are on top of engine on my mk2.5 1.8. They are behind throttle body and there are 2 of them with 2 vacuum pipes to each one.

greggp
Thanks. Car has driven fine today. You mention in your 1st post, you're saving up for repair...Have you had yours diagnosed as to what exactly the problem is then? I have been quoted £62+vat for ford part no. 5243591 which I'm assuming I could change myself...?

leesheffield
No not yet. Get paid this week and then busy few weeks but am going to try as soon as possible not a bad price if I can find that is the actual problem. I've taken them off myself and it's just 4 screws so easy fix if so.

greggp
Out of interest where did you get that diagram from please? From the company who quoted me the part Fordpartsuk.com On journey to work this morning it felt like it was going to happen again, i pulled over, turned car off and restarted and was fine for remainder of 15mile journey. When the issuechappens with yours do you revs stay above normal when coming to a stop, clutch down and braking?? Mine hover at around 1250 marker when braking, clutch down and stopping...only happens when the issue is present. I may buy the part and fit myself, did you take it all off including hoses when you removed? I assume from looking at it, it looks a,relatively easy job
greggp
Does anyone know what the black things (techie term) are on the end of the Engine Air Shutoff Control please? These black things actually move...
greggp
I have checked the wiring and vacuum hoses and all seem okay.
greggp
Had new one of these fitted today and also had throttle body cleaned out...just taken out for a 20mile spin mixture of 30,40,50mph "A" roads and some dual carriage ways where I could open up a little! So far so good touchwood, seems to drive a lot better and idle seems much smoother. I will be using it now for commute to work for the rest of week where stop start traffic is frequent and see how it drives! I will report back... greggp
Well, its like having a new car...the car I actually bought!!drives a lot better & fuel consumption is much better too. It seems to solved other issues I was having, doesnt feel like its goin to cut out in stop/start traffic anymore and idle shuddering stopped as well! leesheffield
Glad you got it sorted. I think k I'm gonna invest in one after pay day. I will let you know if it solves mY problem too. Fingers crossed. The cut out issue was probably to do with throttle body more than anything but I was amazed how much difference that made to mine when I cleaned it out. Robl1502
I know this is a long shot as this thread is 5 years old, but i am having this same issue on a 2007 plate c max 1.8. I saw about this part being a pain in the *****, up until now i have changed the air filter and hose, cleaned out the throttle body and checked for any split hose. Then i saw someone saying this part is a pain in the ***** and throws out the p2008 code alot, i saw someone temporary fix it by switching the 2 solenoid electric switches around and i have done this which did turn the EML off for a short time but im thinking the whole thing is dead because its come back on again since, it doesnt have major impact on driving yet but i do notice some judder when pulling off sometimes and when sat idle. I just wanted to know if this fix did end up solving your problem in the end? i will change it next week but i am getting fed up of replacing bits with no idea if it will work or not lol. I hope someone is still on this thread anyway, Thanks!
