My Sisters' New Car

Featured Replies

My sister needed a new car (well used but new to her) and I went with her to have a look. Having driven this Focus and had a proper look around it, it was a superb purchase. I used to own one about 10 years ago and the 1.6 engine is a gem and so smooth.

It has had one lady owner from new and I checked the aircon and heated windscreen, both of which worked fine. It looks like it needs 2 new front tyres which the dealer will provide once it goes into a local garage for a once over. 3 month engine and gearbox warranty. We need to buy a new set of mats for it and I would say wiper blades too. The price of £1,390 came in at less than what What Car? suggested. 78,000 miles on the clock which is low for the year.

Here's the details from the advert: BLACK, 3 MONTHS PARTS AND LABOUR WARRANTY INCLUDED, Next MOT due 16/04/2015, Part service history, Good bodywork, Interior - Excellent Condition, Tyre condition Good, Adjustable Steering Column/Wheel, Air Bag Driver, Air Bag Passenger, Air-Conditioning, Alloy Wheels, Central Door Locking, Deadlocks, Electric Windows, Head Restraints, Heated Front Screen, Immobiliser, In Car Entertainment, Mirrors External, Mirrors Internal, Power Socket, Power-Assisted Steering, Seat Height Adjustment, Self-Levelling Suspension, Spare Wheel, Speakers, Steering Wheel Mounted Controls, Upholstery Cloth, Upholstery Velour. A direct part exchange car from a main Vauxhall Agent. All our cars are purchased from main franchised dealers not purchased from car auctions like the majority on Autotrader. Nice mileage car for the year and in the best colour black. A very clean and tidy car inside and out.

Thanks. A lot of car for the money and a great engine IMO. I like how the original shape Focus and this minor facelift version still look fresh today. The design and styling is very good and it was years ahead of its time. I would be happy driving it today that's for sure.

no pictures of your sister :lol:

The MK1 Focus is the best! I love it! Hope you're sisiter looks after it and enjoys it! :)

Cheers Chris. I had a 2000 1.6 LX and later a 2003 1.8TDCI 115ps Ghia. Although the diesel was refined and more powerful, I still preferred the 1.6 petrol. Silky smooth but it sounded nice when pushed.

I'd love a MK1. They still look great today!!

Nice looking car indeed :D , I had one for 7 years without any problems at all.

Only thing has the cambelt been done in the part history ?

10 years od 100000 miles

Not sure about that Andy. Worst case is that it hasn't and needs doing, in which case does anyone want to give me a ball park figure for that?

Edit: He is running it through a local garage (who I know and have used, very good), who will present a check list (bit like a service) of issues. Hence, if the tyres are close to the end as we suspect, he will put new one's on.

Its nice to have a garage you know and trust, If it is in need of a timing belt kit and water pump (advisory) it could also be a nice bartering tool too, you don't want to shell out say £2-300 for a cam belt to be fitted after you have bought the car.

My pals dad bought a car from a garage and as part of the sale they put a new cam belt on it as a mater of the sale to give peace of mind to the seller and buyer.

Oh I fibbed the ONLY thing that went wrong with my focus that wasn't my fault was the coil pack....
