Electric Window Nightmare

Featured Replies

I have a 2 litre 2003 ford mondeo, the other day during the rain I went to put the window up (it was half open) even though I was pressing up the window was going down before I knew it the window was down fully, after driving for half an hour I pulled over and pressed a few buttons then all of a sudden it went up (big sigh of relief). The next day the same thing happened opened the window slightly (I get a lot of condensation) and when I went to put it back up it just went back down. I have taken the panel off and unclipped the switch (its a block of 5) but still no joy. Would it be the actual motor or could it just be something like water in there somewhere. No idea what I am doing and driving round with a polythene sheet where the window was

If there isn't something like a short between the connections (and the short could just be corrosion), then it probably isn't the motor itself. If there has been any re-wiring then it might have been done incorrectly.

it is probable that the module that drives the motor is giving the wrong commands to the motor, and the motor is doing what it is being told. I'd suspect the module that drives the motor but it could just as easily be the wiring from the switches to the module.

As you mention condensation, it does make me think that some corrosion is likely to have occurred and if it bridges a couple of the input wires to the module (at the module, at the switch end or somewhere else where there is a connection) all sorts of rubbish could happen. At the motor itself, the corrosion would have to be pretty heavy to carry the relatively high current, so my guess would be that 'somewhere else', with lower current levels, is more likely. There are other possibilities, but condensation does make corrosion sound more likely.

I have 5 switches on my door panel to control all the other windows and they all work off it, its just the drivers door window that dont work so I,m guessing its the wiring from there going into the motor its only happened since we had this bad weather so im guessing water has got in somewhere, just doing my !Removed! head in now
