Suspected Pats Override? - Mondeo Mk2

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I suspect the previous owner of my Mondeo has done something to the PATS system. Since he blatantly lied about a lot of stuff, I can't take his word for anything.

I had no idea what PATS was until after I bought the car 2 weeks ago. The light is continuously on, but the car would start normally. Until one day it didn't. The 3A fuse was blown, after replaced it started normally.

We went to check and the only key I've been given does not work at all. Removing the red PATS bulb and the cartridge will make the car start. I don't have the red key, which means I have no working key fob associated with this vehicle. So that brings the following questions:

1. Is it possible to override the PATS system so that the vehicle runs without any paired keys? I believe that is the case, so to undo that mess where should I start looking? (Relays? Jumpers? etc...)

[QUICK EDIT: I read warnings on other forums about the impossibility of providing such details, due to security concerns. I understand this question might go unanswered.]

2. If I get new key fobs, will I also need a new PATS module? Or else, is it possible to code new keys with the existing module?

3. The key I have says 97BG15K601AA as the part number. The local dealer said this year model (1997) used the 95BG15K601AA key. One is Infra-red, the other is UHF. Is there a way I can tell if my which one my car should really use ny the PATS module code? or any other way.

Sorry for the long thread. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Marcelo
