Mondeo Mk3 2.2Tdci Shrieking Noise

Featured Replies

Hi, lately my Mondeo has started making some VERY loud noises when under stress above 2000rpm. The noise sounds like a scream rather than a whistle, although over the last couple of weeks it has alternated between a whooshing sound and a shrieking noise. From what I can gather from other posts it could be the pipe running from the EGR to the intercooler, I am not sure which pipe they are referring to but I have included pictures and video of which part I suspect might have problems.

I apologise for the same picture being repeated, something messed up with the upload:

I'm not sure how the pipe should look but I am pretty sure it shouldn't be covered with some form of tape and a jubilee clip halfway down?!

Those boost pipes are a fairly common failure, looks like some in has tried to patch it up.

Do you think this pipe could make the noise that I am hearing or is that a seperate issue?

The intercooler hose if damaged will make a horrible whooshing noise like a busted vacuum cleaner at boost pressure which is why you're hearing it at abour 2000rpm.

That pipe looks seriously bodged together.

Replacements aren't expensive and will certainly sort you out.

Many people actually pay a bit more and go for silicone hoses which last longer and give better service than the standard rubber ones.

Hi I had a similar problem with my 2.2 st tdci it was a pipe from the turbo to the inter cooler cost me around £30 to get it sorted
