Mk3 Titanium X 2.0 163 Fuel Economy

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have just pick up a 2012 Mk3 Titanium X 2.0 diesel, absolutely love it looks fantastic and is a great drive but I have a couple of gripes, one minor and one major. First to get the minor gripe out of the way, is there anyway to reset the limits on the electric seats? At 6' 1" I would like the seat to go back a few more inches I would also prefer a slightly higher seating position, as I said this is a minor gripe as the car is comfortable I would just prefer a position more akin to what I am used to.

Now the major gripe, the fuel economy is woeful. I have nursed it along for the first 2-3 weeks I have had it and am getting no better than 39mpg which is a lot less than I had expected and am not even driving the car as hard as I would like. I part exchanged my old 06 Focus 1.6 diesel which I was thrashed everywhere and had no problems getting 45-50mpg. Anybody else had the same issues?

All comments welcome, cheers guys.

What sort of journeys are you doing?

I only get that town driving over winter.

Will get in to the 50s on a good run.

A typical day would be mix of town driving and 60 mph dual carriageway. I reset everything last night and took it for a run up the motorway only went about 10 miles but at 60mph the whole way it really struggled to even get to 42mpg, pushed it on harder tonight and It dropped to 36mpg. very surprised and disappointed to be honest. a bit of hunting about online brings up some people reporting the same issue around the time it launched but I haven't come across anything else since.

Are these mpgs what I should expect?

Manual. How would I know if the DPF is regening? Do you think it just needs the cobwebs blown out?

Fan will be running when engine reaches temp if DPF needs clearing.

What year/plate is it? My 12 plate had an outstanding engine PCM update when I got it which greatly improved driveability and may help economy...

I'll take a listen for the fan tomorrow, I have had a few flat spots in the gear box but couldn't be sure if it was just me getting used to the car suppose it would make sense if there was a blockage. Would the PCM update be recorded in the service book? I am going to take it back into the dealer for a once over I wanted to be sure I wasn't being overly stingy with my expectations before going in shouting the odds haha.

The fuel issue aside it really is a fantastic car really am delighted with it otherwise.

They might not know it has been done until they plug it in to check for the update.
