2006 Ford Focus 1.8Tdci Cutting Out- Fuel Rail Pressure

Featured Replies

New to this,

Owned my 2006 focus 1.8 TDCI Titanium for hust over a year now, no problems what so ever until this week, Car starts as normal but then cuts out after moving around 10ft then will not re-start and shows engine system fault message, eventually does re start after trying a while and drives perfect, and will re start fine when engine is not cold, it only happens when the engine is stone cold, its around 10 degrees outside so not that cold so not likely to be cold weather related! been on a computer today and has a fuel pressure rail fault stored!

any help would be appreciated, it also has just had new glo plugs and serviced 2 and a half weeks ago!

did they change the fuel filter as part of the service? if they did, did they use a genine ford fuel filter? also it could be that the fuel filter housing is not sealed properly, causing some air to get in

Hi thanks for the reply,

Yeah as part of the service (major) filters etc were changed, its at the same garage so they know the service has been carried out wtc, which is a local reliable mechanic used by family on recommendation for around 4/5 years now. they still have the car and are investigating the fault shown on the computer, still no luck as of yet though! over the last 4 days its happened 3 times, but as per whenever mechanic comes to collect the car it works fine!

Just out of curiosity is your thermostat housing leaking at all above the starter motor when mine went I had trouble starting it loss of water was interfering with the cold start and making it stutter when it did start for a few minutes changed it and no problems since could be fuel temp related

okay been working all day but update from the garage, they reckon they found the fault! A seal gone on an injector, which was causing the problem. said when it was sitting overnight air would slowly creep in through the seal causing a small amount of air in there, then the car would start the next morning using the fuel already in the lines then cut out as the air went through... then restart after trying for a while as the air would be working its way out... its starting to make sense now, correct me if im wrong, i only know the basics

Sounds feasible my brothers having a similar problem with his Citroen nemo van at the moment seems to be a problem on them with the primer bulb allowing air when it's been stood for a while when they say injector seal do they mean the copper washer at the bottom if so I'd of thought this would cause a chuffing sound I have a leaky one at the moment but it's not difficult to start .

If it's a very small leak then totally logical.

An injector seal is not a big job however I would suggest doing all four while the rail is off for peace of mind.
